Row Covers

(also called COLD FRAMES or LOW TUNNELS)

A simple ROW COVER like this can serve as a COLD FRAME to grow salad greens all winter long, to grow out tomatoes and other tender plants, to extend the season for an early Spring start or a late Fall harvest, or even as a screen house to keep birds off of your strawberries or vine borer moths off of your squashes.  You can also use one of these to dry out water logged beds and warm up the soil so that you can begin planting in early Spring.  These devices are so useful, cheap, easy, and quick to build that everyone should have at least one – it’s almost as good as having your own GREENHOUSE.

IT ALL STARTS with our galvanized steel ROW COVER HOOPS built at our shop in Virginia, using US manufactured galvanized steel tubing.

Our STANDARD ROW COVER HOOPS and STANDARD ROW COVER FRAME KITS are built with .706" OD, .042 gauge galvanized steel tubing, which are often the ones best suited for homeowners/homesteaders. 

Our DELUXE ROW COVER HOOPS and DELUXE ROW COVER FRAME KITS are built with .922” OD, .049 gauge galvanized steel tubing, which are often the ones best suited for more extreme conditions, such as heavier wind or snow loads.

We manufacture 3’, 4’ and 6’ wide ROW COVER HOOPS in both STANDARD and DELUXE diameters.

1.  CHOOSE YOUR ROW COVER HOOPS 

STANDARD ROW COVER HOOPS.   Are made of .706” OD galvanized steel tubing.  Easy to use, just stick the ends in the ground and cover with your choice of cover.

 
 

DELUXE  ROW COVER HOOPS.  Hoops are made of .922” OD galvanized steel tubing.  Easy to use, just stick the ends in the ground and cover with your choice of cover.

STANDARD ROW COVER FRAME KITS.  Our frame kits offer extra support and stability.  They include HOOPS made of .706” OD galvanized steel tubing, a PURLIN (or runner) made of .706” OD galvanized steel tubing, complete HARDWARE PACKAGE (including end braces and ground stakes), 16 FABRIC CLIPS and an INSTRUCTION BOOKLET.  In addition, you can CALL with any assembly questions.

 
 

DELUXE ROW COVER FRAME KITS.  Our frame kits offer extra support and stability.  They include HOOPS made of .922” OD galvanized steel tubing, a PURLIN (or runner) made of .922” OD galvanized steel tubing, complete HARDWARE PACKAGE (including end braces and ground stakes), 16 FABRIC CLIPS and an INSTRUCTION BOOKLET.  In addition, you can CALL with any assembly questions.

2.  CHOOSE A COVER

COLD FRAME COVERS  Adds one layer of 6 mil., 4 year, UV protected GREENHOUSE FILM to the FRAME KIT of your choice, to extend your growing season.

 
 

SHADE COVERS  Adds one layer of black lockstitch knitted polyethylene SHADE CLOTH to the FRAME KIT of your choice, to provide sun protection during the summer months.  PROVIDES 50% LIGHT TRANSMISSION.

 
 

LIGHT FROST COVERS  Adds one layer of .55 oz. spun bonded polypropylene LIGHT FROST FABRIC to the FRAME KIT of your choice, to extend your growing season.  PROVIDES INSECT PROTECTION, 2-4 DEGREE FROST PROTECTION AND 85% LIGHT TRANSMISSION.

 
 

HEAVY FROST COVERS  Adds one layer of 2.0 oz. spun bonded polypropylene HEAVY FROST FABRIC to the FRAME KIT of your choice, to extend your growing season.  PROVIDES INSECT PROTECTION, 8+ DEGREE FROST PROTECTION AND 30% LIGHT TRANSMISSION.
